Chicago, IL - Victim Hospitalized After Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident on W Cermak Rd

Chicago, IL (July 8, 2022) – On Tuesday, July 5, a hit-and-run driver severely wounded a pedestrian in the Lawndale area and fled the scene.

A white SUV, probably a Buick Encore, struck a person on the road near 4343 West Cermak Road at 1:45 a.m., according to a community alert released by officers with the Chicago Police Department.

Per authorities who responded to the site of the incident, the Buick continued driving eastward on Cermak Road without stopping to provide assistance. Moreover, the pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a local hospital.

The CPD’s Major Accident Investigation Unit asked those with any information or footage in connection with the crash to reach out to them as soon as possible.

Our deepest condolences and hopes for a speedy recovery are with the wounded victims and their families.

Fatalities in Chicago-Area Pedestrian Crashes

Chicago, IL - Victim Hospitalized After Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident on W Cermak RdDespite a general drop in deaths caused by other types of vehicle accidents, the number of pedestrian fatalities in the United States has increased by more than 31% in recent years. Illinois, home to some of the nation’s most populous and walkable cities and towns, including Chicago, Springfield, and beyond, is suffering this terrible trend. On the packed streets of these densely populated places, the danger of severe injury or death for pedestrians is tragically exacerbated.

Cook County has the highest pedestrian death rate in the state. Authorities say that pedestrian fatalities reached a five-year high in 2019, with more than 100 pedestrians killed in Cook County alone.

When confronted with the devastating aftermath of a big accident, victims may feel helpless, whether they are suffering from continuing health difficulties, physical agony, or enormous medical bills. Occasionally, pedestrian accident victims pass away as a result of their injuries, leaving grieving families to contend with increasing costs, lost earning potential, and funeral expenditures in addition to the indescribable anguish of losing a loved one.

If you or a loved one were injured or died in a pedestrian accident, you may have a variety of legal options going forward. You may learn that you are entitled to full and fair monetary compensation after consulting with a Chicago auto accident attorney.

Under the Illinois Wrongful Death Act, persons who have been wounded due to the carelessness or inattentive driving of another motorist may seek compensation from that driver. In the event of a successful case, family members and dependents get compensation.

Therefore, it is crucial that family members contact an Illinois accident attorney as soon as possible after one of these accidents. When you have been engaged in an avoidable accident or have lost a loved one, the D&W Law Group will do all it takes to ensure that you get the maximum compensation you are entitled to.

  • "Excellent Law Firm!"

I cannot recommend D&W Law Group enough. From the moment I met the team, I felt confident that I was in good hands. They kept in touch with me every step of the way. My attorneys fought the insurance company, and we settled my case without having to go to court. Excellent law firm!

  • "Great Settlement"

When I had my accident, the insurance company dragged its feet. I tried to handle the case on my own. I am so glad I decided to hire D&W Law Group. They kept my case moving, and I was awarded a great settlement. I hope I never need an attorney again, but if I do I will call them.
