Oak Lawn, IL - Frankie Willis Identified in Fatal Pedestrian Crash on 95th St

Oak Lawn, IL (November 10, 2022) – The pedestrian who was struck and killed by a vehicle on Tuesday, November 8, in Oak Lawn, a Chicago suburb, was identified by authorities.

According to officials who responded to the site of the crash, the incident happened in the 4400 block of West 95th Street at 3:20 p.m. While turning right onto 95th Street, heading west from northbound Kostner Avenue, a woman operating a beige Toyota minivan struck a pedestrian.

Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said that the pedestrian, later identified as 82-year-old Frankie Willis, was pinned under the vehicle. The Oak Lawn Fire Department transported Willis to Christ Advocate Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

One lane of traffic was opened on 95th Street for the rest of Tuesday night, though the crash was later cleared. Meanwhile, the driver involved is reportedly assisting the Oak Lawn Police Department’s Traffic Unit with their investigation, according to the police. The investigation remains active at this time.

We extend our deepest condolences to Frankie Willis’ family.

Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Chicagoland

Despite a general drop in deaths from other forms of motor vehicle accidents, pedestrian fatalities have increased by around 36% in the US in recent years. Chicago and Springfield, two of the country’s most populous and walkable cities, are located in Illinois. And sadly, the danger of death or severe injury for pedestrians is increased on the congested streets of these highly-populated areas.

Illinois’ Cook County has the highest incidence of pedestrian fatalities in the whole state. In Cook County, at least 120 pedestrians died in 2019, the most in at least five years.

Due to their ongoing physical pain, severe emotional anguish, and/or significant financial commitments, victims of horrific accidents can feel helpless thereafter. Many pedestrian accident victims pass away, leaving behind bereaved families and mounting funeral costs.

If you or a loved one was hurt or killed in a pedestrian accident, you may be eligible to file a lawsuit. After speaking with a Chicago car accident attorney, you could find that you’re entitled to full and fair financial recompense.

The Illinois Wrongful Death Act enables those who have lost a loved one in an automobile accident brought on by the carelessness or recklessness of another driver to make a claim for damages. The plaintiff’s family and dependents are entitled to compensation in the event of successful litigation.

Family members must seek legal counsel as soon as such an accident happens in Illinois. The D&W Law Group will do all in its power to help you get the maximum compensation to which you are entitled in the case of a wrongful death or preventable injury.

Our group believes that no victim’s family member should ever be required to cover losses brought on by another driver’s dangerous behavior. As your only point of contact, our skilled legal team will handle every aspect of submitting a claim for your accident.

  • "Excellent Law Firm!"

I cannot recommend D&W Law Group enough. From the moment I met the team, I felt confident that I was in good hands. They kept in touch with me every step of the way. My attorneys fought the insurance company, and we settled my case without having to go to court. Excellent law firm!

  • "Great Settlement"

When I had my accident, the insurance company dragged its feet. I tried to handle the case on my own. I am so glad I decided to hire D&W Law Group. They kept my case moving, and I was awarded a great settlement. I hope I never need an attorney again, but if I do I will call them.
