Chicago, IL – Three Hospitalized After SUV Crashes into House at 116th St & Racine Ave

On Behalf of | Mar 15, 2023 | General

Chicago, IL (March 15, 2023) – On Tuesday evening, an accident involving a stolen vehicle caused another driver to crash into a house in the West Pullman area and start a fire.

The collision occurred at around 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of 116th Street and Racine Avenue.

According to police, a stolen Kia collided with a Dodge Durango, forcing the SUV to smash into a home. The vehicle and the home both caught fire.

The Kia, which was traveling west on Racine, wound up a few houses down on 116th, while the SUV is shown on camera lipping over as it collides with the home.

No one sustained life-threatening injuries, though a passenger in the Kia was transported to Roseland Community Hospital. Two victims who were traveling in the Durango were also transported in good condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center.

Citations and charges may be pending at this time, local authorities report. In the interim, an investigation is still ongoing.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims in hopes of their full recovery.

Injury Car Accidents in Illinois

Statistics from 2020 show that more than 1190 people died as a result of fatal crashes in the state of Illinois. Thousands more are left with serious injuries that require medical care. In fact, a total of 246,752 crashes were reported during that year alone. Nearly 21.1% of these accidents resulted in injuries.

Being injured as a result of an automobile accident can have a significant and overwhelming impact on your life. Many victims struggle to overcome painful physical and emotional injuries. Trying to deal with the overwhelming consequences can seem incredibly difficult. Unfortunately, accidents take place far too often due to negligence.

Some of the leading factors that we see in motor vehicle crashes here in Illinois include:

  • Speeding drivers: Drivers who exceed the speed limit are more likely to get into an accident. Not only is this illegal, but it’s also dangerous. Speeding increases your chances of being involved in a rear-end accident, hitting a pedestrian or animal, or suffering a collision with another vehicle.
  • Drivers who fail to yield: When approaching a stop sign or stop light, motorists must wait until it’s safe to proceed before proceeding. Failing to yield will result in a traffic citation and can lead to an accident.
  • Switching lanes recklessly: It is important that drivers properly signal in check their blind spots before switching lanes. Unfortunately, we see many drivers weaving between lanes of travel. These actions can lead to devastating collisions.
  • Running red lights: Running red lights can also lead to accidents taking place as vehicles are more likely to strike other vehicles that do have the right-of-way to travel through the intersection.
