Chicago, IL (February 28, 2023) – On Friday afternoon, two Chicago police officers were hurt in a collision near Marquette Park.
Superintendent David Brown tweeted that the collision occurred as the cops were responding to a report about a stolen car. He said that he had visited the cops in the hospital, where he discovered that both suffered several fractures but are expected to recover.
Witnesses reported seeing the police pursue another car at a high rate of speed before colliding with a tree at the junction of 72nd Street and Fairfield Avenue.
At about 2:40 p.m., officers responding to the stolen car complaint swerved to avoid colliding with another vehicle in traffic, according to Chicago police. The unmarked police vehicle lost control and hit a tree.
The Chicago Fire Department said that two cops were transported to Christ Hospital in critical condition. In the meantime, two people have been arrested in connection with the stolen car.
An investigation remains ongoing at this time.
Our thoughts are extended to the injured victims and their families in hopes of their complete recovery.
